IMBA’s Take A Kid Mountain Biking Day

New Specialized bike for some lucky kid.

Join us for the Boone Area Cyclists’ second annual Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day on October 2 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Come sample the single track and the new kid’s pump track (yes, kid’s pump track) and perhaps win the bike above. Adults, you will have to give first dibs on the pump track to the kids. Sorry.

This is the eighth year the International Mountain Bicycling Association has sponsored this event. This weekend, IMBA has pledged to engage 30,000 children in 300 cycling events  to support of First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! initiative.

Children on smaller bikes (16 or 20 inch wheels) will find fun in the new pump track area. Kid’s on 26 mountain bikes will enjoy the trails and the pump track.

Dress warm for some two-wheeled fun.

Gravity Nationals

RKP volunteers Craig Folsum (left) and Alex Dawson (right) made it to the podium at the USA Cycling Gravity Nationals. If you’ve ever ridden with these shredders, you know how fast the competition was. Congrats, guys!

If you missed out on the action, you can check it out here.

Fall Update

The leaves are beginning to fall at Rock Knob. The change in seasons also signals a change for the park. You may have noticed some work happening at the end of the parking lot. The county is cutting down the pad for the Adventure Playground. Once this grading is complete, we will begin work on a kid’s pump track to the side of that area.

Construction of the Bike Skills area will begin this fall too. These two efforts will help push the Park forward as a premier destination for all ages.

Benchmark Trails will be back soon. Deno will begin work on the wooden features on the Upper Knob Trail system. If you haven’t seen these trails yet, you need to come on out to a Dirty Thursday ASAP!

Also — two events of note: October 8th will be a Community Trail Day (time TBA) and November 5th is the first ever Rocky Knob Festival! Stay tuned for more into on both.

Enjoy the trails!
