Anticipation

Anticipation

The first 1.6 mile loop is nearly complete. A big thanks is due to everyone who has been turning out on Thursdays (including Lynn Willis who worked solo by headlamp well into the night to complete the connection between bridge 2 and 3).  We are still working on the bridges near the creek area and are planning a major work day next Thursday (11/18 – 3:00 PM). We are anticipating an opening of the first loop soon. Meanwhile, Bob has moved the mini-ex to the 1-mile extension and is about 400 feet in. Stay tuned for updates on the opening of Rocky Knob Park. Until then, check out the bridges:

Patience, Please.

We are incredibly fortunate to be building a mountain bike park in Boone. The Boone Bike community knows this but trails don’t happen overnight. The Bike Park is not open yet. Please resist the urge to sample the trail. If you can’t wait to see what’s happening, get in on the trail work. With every hour we work, we are closer to riding. We will be done with the first loop soon and will host an opening of the trail when it has been cleared to ride. Thank you for your patience!

Community Work Day

Thanks to all 58 volunteers, our work day was a tremendous success. Hand finishing has caught up with the machine again, the extension of the Phase One loop is half cleared, the boulder field is several tons of moved-stones closer to being complete, the first bridge was finished, and second begun. What a day! Thanks also to Mellow Mushroom, Black Cat, Earth Fare, Magic Cycles, Boone Bike and Touring, 5.10, Stick Boy, Sunrise Grill, Boone Take Out Express, Food Lion, Harris Teeter, Lowes, the Watauga Co. Tourism Development Authority, ASU’s Recreation Management Students, and ASU’s ACT Office.

Milestone

Trail work is in full swing at the Knob. Several community groups have been working on hand build sections of trail, the interns and volunteers have been making boardwalks ready, the trail is nearly 1 mile complete, and mother nature is providing a brilliant backdrop. This weekend will mark our first community build day since the opening weekend. Come out and join us on Saturday, Oct 16th from 10:00 to 2:00 for some work. We will provide tools, some food and drink after, and a raffle. This event is being sponsored by the Boone Area Cyclists, Boone Bike and Touring, Magic Cycles, Bald Guy Brew, Black Cat, Sunrise Grill, Boone Take Out Express, and many others. Hope to see you there!
